What is Fog Mist Nozzle?

A fog mist nozzle is a type of nozzle that is designed to create a fine mist or fog by breaking up water into tiny droplets. These nozzles are commonly used in various applications such as cooling systems, humidification systems, dust suppression, and special effects in entertainment industry. The fine mist created by fog mist nozzles can help to cool down the surrounding area, increase humidity, control dust particles, and create a visually appealing mist effect.

Benefits of Fog Mist Nozzle

Cooling

Fog mist nozzles can effectively cool down outdoor spaces, such as patios, decks, and gardens, by dispersing a fine mist of water that evaporates quickly and lowers the ambient temperature.

Humidification

Fog mist nozzles can help to increase humidity levels in dry environments, which is beneficial for both plants and humans. They can be used in greenhouses, terrariums, and indoor spaces to create a more comfortable atmosphere.

Dust suppression

Fog mist nozzles are effective at suppressing dust and particles in the air, making them ideal for use in construction sites, mining operations, and industrial settings.

Pest control

Some fog mist nozzles are designed to dispense insecticides or repellents, which can help to control pests and insects in outdoor areas without the need for harmful chemicals.

Odor control

Fog mist nozzles can be used to disperse deodorizers or neutralizing agents to help eliminate unpleasant odors in indoor or outdoor spaces.

Energy-efficient

Fog mist nozzles consume less water than traditional sprinkler systems, making them a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective option for outdoor cooling and humidification.

Fog Mist Nozzle: Everything You Need to Know!

Fog mist nozzles create a spray consisting of very small droplets even at low pressures and are used for dust control, humidification, cooling, surface treatment, and for spraying oil mist.

The higher the pressure, the smaller the droplets. Small droplets are ideal when full evaporation is required or to bind airborne dust.

It is important to note that the outlet opening is very small, which means that the nozzle can clog if the liquid contains solid particles. In order to prevent clogging, installing a pre-filter or using a misting nozzle with a built-in filter is recommended.

Types of Fog Mist Nozzle

Low pressure misting nozzle

These nozzles operate at lower pressures, typically between 40-150 psi, and produce fine mist droplets. They are commonly used for outdoor cooling systems.

High pressure misting nozzle

These nozzles operate at higher pressures, typically above 800 psi, and produce ultra-fine mist droplets. They are often used in industrial and commercial applications for dust suppression, odor control, and humidification.

Brass misting nozzle

These nozzles are durable and resistant to corrosion, making them suitable for outdoor use. They are commonly used in residential and commercial misting systems.

Stainless steel misting nozzle

These nozzles are more durable and resistant to corrosion than brass nozzles, making them suitable for high-pressure misting applications.

Ceramic misting nozzle

These nozzles are highly resistant to corrosion and wear, making them ideal for harsh environments. They are commonly used in industrial applications where durability is important.

Anti-drip misting nozzle

These nozzles are designed to prevent dripping when the misting system is turned off, reducing water waste and potential damage to surrounding areas.

Adjustable misting nozzle

These nozzles allow the user to adjust the flow rate and spray pattern, providing flexibility in controlling the mist output. They are often used in customized misting systems.

Micro misting nozzle

These nozzles produce extremely fine mist droplets, creating a cloud-like effect. They are commonly used in greenhouse humidification systems and delicate plant irrigation.

Material of Fog Mist Nozzle

Fog mist nozzles are typically made of durable materials such as brass, stainless steel, or plastic. Brass nozzles are known for their corrosion resistance and long-lasting durability, making them ideal for outdoor applications. Stainless steel nozzles are also highly durable and resistant to corrosion, making them suitable for a wide range of environments. Plastic mist nozzles are lightweight and cost-effective, making them a popular choice for indoor misting systems.

Craftsmanship of Fog Mist Nozzle

1. Production of the nozzle part

(1) Cut a cylindrical blank from the material, the length of which is generally 3-4 times the nozzle diameter;

(2) Open a hole on the center line of the blank. The diameter of the hole should be larger than the radial dimension of the nozzle core and cut into a cone;

(3) Open a hole on the side of the blank to form the nozzle hole. The size, angle and number of the nozzle holes will directly affect the spray effect;

(4) Through grinding wheel processing, the nozzle is given the required shape and precision.

2. Production of the piston

(1) Cut a circular blank from the aluminum plate;

(2) Open a hole in the center of the blank and process the shape of the blank;

(3) Through lathe finishing, the blank is given the required precision and size.

3. Production of fine-tuning valve

(1) Cut a rectangular blank from stainless steel material;

(2) Make a hole in the center of the blank and process the shape of the fine-tuning valve;

(3) Use lathe to finish the work to obtain the required accuracy and size.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between fog nozzle and mist nozzle?

A: It may seem an elementary question, but it's important to first understand how misters and foggers differ. It mostly comes down to droplet size: Fogging pumps produce ultra-small droplets, approximately 1–10 microns. Misting pumps produce slightly larger droplet sizes, approximately 10–100 microns.

Q: What does a fog nozzle do?

A: All styles of fog nozzles have a spray pattern adjustment. These nozzles can produce three different types of streams; the straight stream for long reach, the narrow-angle cone for advancing an attack line into a structure or fire room, and the wide-angle cone for protection and ventilation.

Q: What is the purpose of a mist nozzle?

A: All misting systems are comprised of a series of nozzles placed in a line. When attached to high-pressure pumps, water is forced through nozzles, forming droplets which evaporate into mist when they reach the outdoor air. This can reduce the temperatures by 35 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Q: What is the difference between a fog nozzle and a straight nozzle?

A: The fog nozzle water stream can be adjusted to expand the width, but as this happens, the reach decreases. No adjustable tips. Unlike a straight stream nozzle, a fog tip nozzle does not offer the ability to change tips or adjust the amount of water flowing through the nozzle.

Q: What pressure do you pump a fog nozzle at?

A: Operating Pressure & Volume Capacity - Typically, Automatic Fog Nozzles are designed with an operating pressure of 75 psi or 100 psi and will flow a range of gallons per minute.

Q: What are the four types of fog nozzles?

A: Unlike the smooth bore nozzle, the fixed-gallonage fog nozzle, and the selectable-gallonage fog nozzle, the automatic fog nozzle does not provide a known flow rate at a specific nozzle pressure. Instead, the automatic nozzle provides a known flow rate range at a specific nozzle pressure.

Q: What is an advantage of an automatic fog nozzle?

A: Pros. The automatic maintains pressure throughout a flow range. This means your stream reach is always optimized, even with low flows. Since this is a combination nozzle, you have the option of using a straight stream or fog pattern based on your fire ground needs.

Q: What size misting nozzle do I need?

A: Orifice size regulates misting nozzle water capacity and ultimate size of water droplets exiting the nozzle. For moderate and/or humid climates, orifice in 0.1m to 0.15mm size is recommended. For very dry and hot climates 0.2mm misting nozzles can be used. Orifice comes in ceramic and stainless steel materials.

Q: How much pressure is needed for a mist nozzle?

A: We recommend at least 40psi for the minimum water pressure. Although, we've had people operate as low as 25psi without any problems. Typically any pressure coming out of your homes water faucet will be sufficient.

Q: When to use smooth bore vs fog nozzle?

A: Smooth bore nozzles outperform fog nozzles in that they have more operational benefits, which include: greater reach and better penetration. less nozzle reaction except for the 50-psi fog nozzle. less likelihood of being clogged by debris.

Q: How do you keep misting nozzles from clogging?

A: Install Strainers: Strainers can be installed to filter out particles that could cause blockage. By catching these particles before they reach the nozzle orifice, strainers can significantly reduce the risk of clogging.

Q: How much water does a misting nozzle use?

A: The misting heads allow just half a gallon per hour per head. So if there are two misting heads on your system it would go through approximately one gallon of water an hour of continuous use.

Q: What are fog mist nozzles typically used for?

A: Fog mist nozzles are commonly used for cooling outdoor spaces, controlling dust and odors, and creating special effects in theatrical productions or theme parks.

Q: Are fog mist nozzles adjustable?

A: Yes, many fog mist nozzles come with adjustable settings to control the size of the mist droplets and the amount of spray.

Q: Do fog mist nozzles require a special type of water?

A: Most fog mist nozzles can be used with regular tap water, but some may require filtered or distilled water to prevent clogging.

Q: How often do fog mist nozzles need to be cleaned?

A: Fog mist nozzles should be cleaned regularly to prevent clogging and ensure optimal performance. The frequency of cleaning will depend on usage and water quality.

Q: Can fog mist nozzles be used in cold weather?

A: Fog mist nozzles can be used in cold weather, but precautions should be taken to prevent freezing and damage to the nozzles.

Q: Are fog mist nozzles energy efficient?

A: Fog mist nozzles are generally energy efficient, as they require minimal power to operate compared to other cooling systems.

Q: Can fog mist nozzles be used in greenhouses?

A: Yes, fog mist nozzles are commonly used in greenhouses to maintain humidity levels and cool the air for plants.
